A thinning shear on a curved body is a specialist's tool. It does the job neither a flat thinner nor a solid curved shear can do alone: blending and softening along the contours of the dog — rounded heads, curved leg lines, the transition from body to skirt — without leaving a visible track or flattening the shape you just worked to build.
Lupo Scissors are hand-made from Japanese 440C stainless steel, built exclusively for the Canadian grooming market. 440C is the industry's workhorse alloy — hard enough to hold a convex edge through heavy use, soft enough to re-sharpen cleanly for years of service. The offset handle positions your thumb and fingers in a natural grip, which matters when you're on your eighth dog of the day.
About this shear
Most thinners are flat — fine for blending clipper lines on a body panel, but awkward the moment you try to follow a curve. A curved thinner solves that. You can finish a Bichon head, soften the top of a Poodle's rear, or blend a leg-to-body transition in one motion, following the shape rather than working against it.
This is not usually a first-kit shear. It's the tool a groomer adds once the straight thinner and curved scissors are already in the kit and they've hit the limit of what those two can do together. If your finish work looks technically clean but slightly flat — like you can see where the thinner stopped and the scissor work began — a curved thinner is the shear that closes that gap.
