Can we mix you a shampoo-cocktail?

31st May 2016

Groomers often ask us, "do you bathe a white dog that likes to swim, twice?  Once with a Specialty Shampoo, such as Quick Relief Neem to help rid the skin and coat of any irritations from lake water, then again with Aloe Bluing to bring out the white coat?"   Our answer is, why don't you mix a shampoo-cocktail? As long as the skin and coat are not experiencing any major issues requiring a pure Specialty Shampoo treatment, then why not mix your bottle with both shampoos (using half as much of each type of shampoo). Nature's Specialties shampoos can help aid in the relief of many skin and coat issues, but many dogs require more than one solution, and dogs without specific issues can benefit from more than one shampoo.  Many groomers have their own shampoo-cocktails that work best for their dogs, but here are some of our favorites.   A Few of Lynn's Shampoo-Cocktails:

Seasonal Favorites:

  • Spring/Summer: Mix every bath with a little bit of Quick Relief Neem shampoo - great for swimming dogs, relieves itching due to flea and tick infestations, etc. Then add other shampoos depending on the dog.
  • Fall/winter: Although we love to mix every cocktail with Quick Relief Neem, we tend to use Sheazam Shampoo more often in the fall and winter as it helps soothe dry skin.

The same logic can be used with Nature's Specialties conditioners.  We generally condition every dog we groom. Note: these are only suggestions and not every skin and coat type will produce the same results.  Before you use any of our suggested skin treatments it is best to consult with your veterinarian.  Dogs and cats with moderate to severe skin issues should be treated as a special case, you can refer to our "Skin & Coat Issues Product Guide" for suggestions and recommended treatments.
