Blow Drying in the Tub

A technique that will help you save time on the table!

blasting 1How much time do you spend brushing and combing double-coated dogs, matted doodles, etc, on the table?  These old fashioned techniques can injure the dog's skin and break a dry/brittle coat. We have been using a technique in the bathtub that can reduce the stress on the dog's skin and coat.  These steps can also save you a significant amount of time. Steps:

  • For best results use: Nature's Specialties EZ Out, EZ Shed and/or EZ Dematt!
  • Apply shampoo to the dry coat.  The first thing that hits the dry coat will get sucked up (so make it the good stuff!).  Gradually add more water to distribute the product throughout the coat.
  • Work the shampoo into the coat well, it is better to leave our premium products on the coat to soak in for 10 minutes or longer. With Nature's Specialties, the longer it stays on the coat the better the coat will look and feel.
  • With the product still on the coat, use your blow dryer to blast the coat for a couple of minutes.  This will help loosen any dead hair and skin without the stress of brushing/combing and pulling on a dry, dirty coat.  There is also less chance of hair breakage.
  • Rinse shampoo from coat.
  • Apply conditioner to the coat and let sit for 5 to 10 minutes.  It is always best to follow with a conditioner, especially on a double-coat.  Then you can use your blow dryer to blow out the remaining loose skin and coat.
  • Always be sure to rinse the excess product out of the coat.

Proceed with caution, you want to be careful not to blow too close to the skin.  Some of our blow dryers can be very powerful!
