Bacteria In Your Pre-Mixed Shampoo Bottles

Everyone knows that the grooming industry is very busy and there are many time constraints. We’re always looking for ways to try to save time, because time is money. This is one thing NOT TO DO to save time! We are getting some feedback from shops that they are premixing shampoo as much as 2 weeks ahead of time! With shampoo concentrates this is a HUGE NO NO!Soon after you take shampoo out of its concentrated state it starts the decomposition process, it will actually start to rot after a short period of time…. This may save time in the beginning but may cause far more time consuming problems in the end. You may even lose customers, without even realizing it. Some customers might not take the time to call you back with issues, they may just look for another shop to do business with. Did you not wonder why the pets just don't smell as good at the end of the week as they do at the beginning when your shampoo was fresh? Do you ever experience a call back from a customer stating that they are sure their pet is allergic to the shampoo that your using? Complaining that their pet is developing rashes and itching extensively after a visit to the groomers? By saving time pre-mixing shampoo that much ahead, you may be bathing their pets with rotten shampoo while covering them with all kinds of bacteria and fungus.

Why wouldn't all of the dogs have skin reactions to premixed shampoo?

Pets with healthy skin & coat would probably be able to tolerate situations like this. As for those pets that have compromised skin, applying old shampoo would make them very susceptible to developing a very ugly skin reaction.

Recommendations:

  • Empty and rinse out bottles with fresh water at the end of each day.
  • Turn bottles upside down to let the bottle dry out completely overnight.
  • Pre-Mix bottles in the morning, it should only take an extra 10 minutes to mix your bottles, so you have fresh smelling, warm shampoo every day...

Your client’s pets will also appreciate getting a squirt of warm water rather than cold water from old pre-mixed bottles.
